Creating a glowing energy over an object

 

 

Step 5. Setting the glowing energy surface attributes

 

Get back in Layout and parent the new layers to the first one. It's time now to set the parameters of the Energy surface.

Ensure that the Color is Cyan (128,255,255) and add a new procedural texture layer in Color channel. Use the parameters shown here.

 

Now set Luminosity and Transparency to 100% and edit their texture channels in the same way as for Color (you can copy the Color texture layer and paste it into both Luminosity and Transparency channels).

 

You may notice that Layer Opacity of Transparency channel is animated. The idea here is to have the energy intensity change as it crawls over the ship. To do that, you can use the Noisy Channel modifier:

 

 

Now go to Advanced tab in Surface Editor and set Glow Intensity to 100% (and don't forget to enable glow in the Image Process dialog).

At this point, you should have something like this:
