Creating a glowing energy over an object

Step 4. Making the glowing energy

Send the second fighter (LowCountFighterv2 object) to Modeler, copy current layer and paste it to Layer 2. Name the new layer "Energy".

Set the Action Center to "Selection" (Shift+f8) and do Smooth Shift (about 50 mm). Give the new layer new surface (press "q") and name it "Energy". The point of this operation is to have in a separate layer copy of the object, slightly bigger than the original.

The glowing energy surface will be applied to this separate layer and this way we will make sure that the new object in layer 2 will not intersect the original. After setting of the Energy surface parameters is finished, it will look as the energy slides over the space ship.

NOTE: If you want to use a high poly object for this effect, you may want to reduce the number of polygons that the energy layer consists of.

Now go to new layer and having layer 1 as background layer, create a plane with the size of the fighter in layer 1. Name the layer "Transparency" and assign a new surface to it (I named the surface Box_transp, but I'm sure you can give it smarter name). Set the transparency to 100%, check "Double sided" and leave the other parameters to their defaults.
