Westminster University chose the TriCaster to broadcast
their major Journalism in Crisis conference! |

Bordeaux, France – May 19th, 2009 - NewTek Europe is proud to announce the prestigious University of Westminster, hosting a top conference on journalism in crisis, chose to broadcast the event with TriCaster Broadcast™, supported by Jigsaw Systems Ltd, one of NewTek Europe Authorized Resellers in the UK.
Jigsaw Systems Ltd handled the set up of the TriCaster for the event, organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The TriCaster happens to be the perfect device for them to stream the event live, filling the gap with a barker channel.
After a few days training on TriCaster, Hassan Alkatib, one of the students using the TriCaster, supervised by Rob Benfield, was very enthusiastic about the product developed by NewTek Inc.: “This is a really useful product and simple to operate. It took me three days to get to know the basics and some advanced features (…) I believe the TriCaster is great for outside broadcasts, such as events, conferences, and gives students a valuable experience.”
The University of Westminster – London –organized this conference on journalism in crisis May 19th and May 20th, featuring prestigious figures of the British media, such as Mark Thompson, BBC Director General, Nick Pollard, former head of Sky News or Kelvin MacKenzie, Sun columnist and former Sun editor…

On May 19th, the University established a Skype connection with Professor Todd Gitlin from Columbia University for a keynote speech on “The Crises in Journalism: Business, Attention and Authority”. That intervention was made possible -and easy- by the TriCaster, the award-winning solution for portable live production.
“Everyone loves the TriCaster”, said Geoffrey Davies, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. “[The people from Jigsaw] are being very supportive. We have already been using the box on the project, using the keying facilities and preparing captions. I am also excited about the potential of adding a scripting system!”
The event planned a series of lectures about topics such as investigative journalism or the evolution of online media. On May 20th afternoon, Nick Pollard, former Head of Sky News, will try to answer that question: does television journalism have a future – and does it matter?
The event should climax with the inaugural presentation of the Charles Wheeler Award for Broadcast Journalism and an address by the Director General of the BBC Mark Thompson, on Wednesday evening. Watch the presentation.:
