BBC Television buys NewTek TriCaster™
for public visitor centre

Bordeaux, France, June 2, 2008 - NewTek Europe-3D Storm E.M.E.A distributor of NewTek, Inc., manufacturer of industry-leading video and 3D animation products, today announced that BBC Manchester has chosen TriCaster STUDIO™ as a didactic tool to help show the public how television is made. The TriCaster STUDIO will be part of a number of exhibits in a new interactive room designed to give the public an insight into broadcasting at the BBC.

Founded in 1922, the British Broadcasting Corporation, usually known as the BBC, is the world's largest broadcasting corporation with 8 national TV channels, 10 national radio stations, 40 local radio stations and an extensive website. The BBC World Service broadcasts to the world on radio, on TV and online, providing news and information in 33 languages.

BBC Manchester is currently home to one of the largest BBC centres outside of London with around 800 staff working across regional and network programmes. In 2011, a further 1,600 jobs will move to Greater Manchester with the creation of a new centre at media:city uk in Salford.

In accordance with the BBC’s stated mission "to inform, educate and entertain", TriCaster STUDIO, supplied by AV specialist Siren Technology, will be installed “in a new public display, giving the public a peek behind the scenes of how we make television” says James Patterson , BBC Manchester’s Technology Support Manager. “This unit is a comprehensive all in one solution that gives us a fantastic Green Screen experience.”

BBC is also considering TriCaster to be used in broadcast projects. “We are currently assessing its capabilities with respect to other areas and other broadcast projects at remote contribution sites where consistency of branding between the host studio and the remote studio is important, says James Patterson “I suspect that the TriCaster will feature heavily going forwards.

“We’re very excited and proud to count the BBC in our users” said Franck Lafage, Managing director of NewTek Europe/3D Storm. “This proves once again the powerful potential of TriCaster in the broadcast & education market”.

The combination of portability and ease of set-up with the extensive live production capabilities of TriCaster STUDIO allows video producers to broadcast and web stream events and content at levels previously considered prohibitive. TriCaster STUDIO provides all of the capabilities of a live remote production truck including: component video, six component video inputs and advanced switching features, live virtual sets, multiple upstream effects, dual virtual VCRs, balanced audio and more in a 16lb, low impact footprint. TriCaster STUDIO, the unique all-in-one portable Live production system, makes it possible to cover live events, broadcast and stream from almost any location at unprecedented production cost.

Virtual Sets

The proprietary virtual set system in TriCaster STUDIO™, LiveSet™ allows separate virtual sets to be assigned independently to all six camera inputs and the dual integrated VCRs. In addition, each input has an independent LiveMatte™ module eliminating the need for expensive hardware for each source to be connected to the system. Each virtual set supports virtual cameras with multiple angles and zoom levels with support for secondary video sources such as reflections, refractions and bump maps.
