BORDEAUX – January 5th 2012 – Digital Mind Animation Studio produced Carthago Nova, a historical animated movie made in LightWave, a two years work rewarded today with a nomination for best animated film at the Goya Awards.
Carthago Nova was a project initiated by the Government of Murcia and the City of Cartagena, through the "Fundación Integra". The main goal was to create an educational and informative tool to understand the Roman legacy and treasures of the city. Digital Mind Animation Studio was chosen to produce a historical documentary about the ancient Carthago Nova (Cartagena), but with the impressive results obtained with LightWave, they decided to make a 65 minutes feature Film.
“The best thing about LightWave 3D is that absolutely everything can be done just by looking the right way” says José María Molina, CEO and animation director of Digital Mind.
For the movie, they modeled two complete cities, Cartagena during the Roman years (Carthago Nova) and the same city in the Iberian era (Qart Hadasht). The two complete cities contain more than 100 different types of houses. For this project they used LightWave 9.6 and 9.6.1 for FiberFX tool.
“When we started with LightWave 3D in 1999 we never thought that we would be addicted to it. Today the whole 3D team uses LightWave. High efficiency and the excellent quality of the render in LightWave make it an essential tool”
This is not the first time that the team of four gets rewarded for their work on LightWave. DIGITAL MIND won an award in 2004 for the short film "Sirius" at the International Animation Festival "SICARM". In 2005, they produced a short film about Hiroshima atomic bomb for Animadrid. "Hiroshima" won the award for best Spanish short film.
This time, Digital Mind Animation Studio grabbed a nomination at the most prestigious film award ceremony in Spain. They are enlisted for the Goya award for Best Animated Film Production.
Every year, the Spanish Film Academy celebrates the quality of Spanish cinema with the Goya Awards, in technicaland creative categories.
The ceremony will be held in Madrid on February 19th. |
