Do you have any video background, since you are nominally the webmaster for the Saxo Bank site?

No I don't have any video background. I have spent a lot of time with 3D applications as a hobby in my spare time, but unfortunately I don't have too much of that anymore! Last time I had time to work with 3D was in 1997. I still use Rhino3D, Animation Master, Imagine (legal copies of course :) and Blender that I use for GUI, logo and icon design. I will start using LightWave soon, as it is part of the Video Toaster.

The closest I have been to video production is when I took a class in 3D at Technical University of Denmark in 1995 and using trial versions of Premiere that comes along with every PC magazine today.

So... well... no, no experience, but hey it's pretty simple isn't it?. 2D is when it comes down to it is just a subset of 3D :)

Anyway I have always liked working with New Media (as we call multimedia today) so working with the TV setup for the morning call has been very interesting for me.

And in theory the setup is really simple, although in practice I have had to realise that the technology used to make live distributed web casts has not really matured yet - that is probably why so few people make live web-TV today.

Having said that, it is possible pick up a lot of bits and pieces and put them together to make an automated live web cast system. But that is definitely a real challenge.

There is still a lot of optimisation work to do before everything works with one press of a button - running the Video Toaster is by far the easiest part of it.

I was concerned that the Video Toaster might be a little bit too hairy for the people that I have had to involve. But I'm glad to say that this has not been the case. I believe that even inexperienced users will find it easy to operate.

Have you got deals with television stations already?

We don't make deals. If a TV station is interested in filming an interview with us, they just have to give us a call (30-40 minutes in advance). We will then create a satellite connection if needed (if the TV station is outside Denmark).

Do you have plans to offer the broadcast in other languages?

Yes. We have about 25 different nationalities servicing more than 100 countries around the world. So you might say that we are thinking about broadcasting the Market Call in a few different languages!

Thanks Ulrik! You can see the morning call for yourself by visiting Saxobank.com and using the drop-down Site Map menu on the left to choose Live Morning Call.
