When did you first start using
it?
I started using LightWave
properly May 2002. I threw myself in at the deep
end after playing with the demo for about a month.
My first project in it was a pitch and I had four
days to work on it! Before that I used to use
3D Studio Release 4, 3DSMAX and AutoCAD for work
done whilst at university, as well as hand-drawing
visuals, but I never did anything as 'finished'
as I have done in LightWave.
What do you like about the
package?
I found it really easy
to get to grips with the modelling side of things,
we would start with initial concept designs, see
them on screen and change them there and then.
There's a huge number of options for everything
too! Objects, cameras, lights - everything can
be tweaked to make things just right. I'm still
finding new things and learning as I go along,
though, and I try to use or do something new or
different with every project I do. With the lack
of time on my hands to really hammer through many
tutorials it's the only way I'll really progress,
at the moment.
What could be improved for
you?
Well, up to now, the only
problem I've had was getting used to the menus
when I first started using LightWave, sometimes
it could take me a while to find certain functions.
It still does sometimes! Drawing walls would be
a lot easier if I could give a thickness to spline-drawn
lines and then extrude them... but if this can
already be done could someone let me know how?!
:) I guess that's kind of specific to what I use
LW for at work.
