He's just turned 30, he has a love of creepy crawlies and all things dark and he gave up web design in favour of 3D. Sounds like a perfect candidate for a short, but sweet, profile!

When did you see LightWave for the first time?

I saw LightWave running on my friends Macintosh, long time ago. It was LW 5.5 I guess.

When did you first start using it?

I bought a copy of LW 6 at some point during 2000, and used it for some of the particle effects in my first short film "Mantis".

What do you like about the package?

Ha, I love the interface. I'm not very keen on all those little colourful icons. They are too disturbing. LightWave's interface and workflow are the things I like most about the package.

What could be improved for you?

Well, definitely multiple undo in Layout, bone system, and above all the speed of rendering.

What spec machine(s) are you using it on at the moment?

I'm using PC PIII 750MHz at home, and P4 1.8GHz at work.

You first came to prominence as a Cinema 4D artist, why did you make the switch to LightWave?

I was using Cinema 4D on a Mac, OS 8.5 and 9. A few years ago Macintosh computers were hopeless when it comes to OpenGL acceleration. I completed my short film in Cinema 4D on a Mac, but when I saw the speed of a Windows NT machine, I switched to one and I was hired by a company whose main application is 3DS Max. However, I still had this copy of LW for a Mac at home, so I made a cross-grade to LW 6.5 Windows version.

Why do you think Poland is such a source of talent using LightWave? There's you, Lukasz Pazera and many others that are becoming famous all over the world?

I really can't say. I think people with artistic background can always grow strong in 3D, using all their talents from traditional painting, drawing and sculpting. But I wouldn't consider LightWave as a factor here. :)

What got you into 3D in the first place?

I was a graphic designer before getting into 3D industry. I was using some small 3D elements in my projects for print and for Web. One day, I just understood that the next logical step for me was making my own short animated film. I closed my own Web Design company and started animating...
