What are your favorite features in LightWave?

The Node editor is very powerful and exceptionally flexible and once you drill down into some of its functions great results can be achieved very fast. The render engine and new linear work flow are a massive boost to the production pipeline as we run a linear pipe through the studio.

What other programmes did you use?

We used Messiah, Softimage, Body Paint and ZBrush, we have been evaluating Nuke Which is an awesome compositor.

What is next? Any future projects you could tell us about?

We are currently working on a major new series for Kudos called (Outcasts) which is a Sci fi Drama set in the future for the BBC, as well as producing some in-programme cgi for the latest series of “Spooks”. A logo rebrand for one of the Virgin companies in both 3D and S3D formats, a set of airline adverts along with two movies "The Kitchen Games" and “Luna”.

What do you think of the new LightWave 10 with VCam announced at Siggraph this week?

It’s a fantastic addition along with Bullet, indeed, in brief chats we have had with Rob we feel that the future looks extremely bright for Lightwave users. We do hope though that some of the basic stuff gets an overhaul, like the graph editor, hypervoxels etc.

Many thanks to Simon Percy and Andrew Bishop, Directors of Darkside Animation Films
and to the Darkside Team for the great visuals and for taking the time to answer our questions !
