What about your latest projects? What companies are you working for right now? What were the most recent artworks to be launched?
Leo Burnett Dubai has been one of our biggest clients over the last few years and through them we have done a lot of work for General Motors, particularly on the Chevrolet brand. We have just finished Chev “In Motion” - a huge 5 minute, full CG showcase of 17 cars in 6 interconnected environments. We created desert, hangar, skid pan, off road, luxury and racetrack sections where the cars were put through their paces. It took our Lightwave artists 5 months to complete the almost 100 shots, which include elements like water, smoke, dust, dirt roads, skids and even a few drivers. The client was super happy with the result and it looks like it will have an international distribution. |

You mentioned you were looking for talents? Would you mind precising what you’re looking for?
Mia: We are always on the lookout for talent, we love to spot potential genius in the making :) At the moment, we have openings for senior people, who can lead the teams (both Lightwave and Maya). We are also looking for Lightwave generalists and Maya character animators.
Jason: We're looking for people who have a sense of adventure as well as tremendous talent. The Middle East is one of the few locations in the world where you can balance lifestyle/security, healthcare and work opportunity. Those with vision will find Dubai the ideal place to spend a year or two. And it's tax free :) |

And finally, a tough one: what is the project you’re the most proud of?
Jason: Liwa heights. It was an architectural project we did years ago and would be ashamed to share it with anyone now, but it was one of our first projects and it took a lot of new techniques (surface baking, etc) in order to render it out in such a short space of time. I remember being so tired towards the end that Marc and I where laughing hysterically for no reason at all – it was 4am and we had only been getting three hours sleep a night for two weeks ... good times! ;)
Marc: That would have to be our new Chevrolet In Motion project. This was really a huge undertaking, and for the resources which we had, and as well as the time frame, it turned out great. We're very proud of it.
Mia: For me it will have to be Spark "Own the City" Those perennially cheerful little cars, with their flagrant rejection of the laws of gravity, still make me smile! Also, this job marked a turning point for us, it was a make or break. |
Anything else you’d like to point out and share with our readers?
Yes, we were very pleased to receive our first awards this year. Digital Studio Magazine (local industry magazine) voted us the best animation studio in the GCC region and we also received a MENA Cristal Production award for best VFX in a TVC (Chev Aveo RC car).
And last of all, we have a freebie for your readers! We are giving away the Aveoremote controlled car model from the Aveo RC TVC. It was modeled and rigged by Marc and Nigel! |
