You actually built the entire city of old Carthage? How many buildings?
In fact, we have modelled two complete cities, Cartagena during the Roman years (Carthago Nova) and the same city in the Iberian epoch (Quart Hadash). The two complete cities contain more than 100 different types of house, in addition to important buildings, of which archaeological remains are still preserved, so we had to build them with a high level of detail.(Theatre and Roman amphitheatre, the baths, temples, etc.)
When will it be finished?
The movie will be completed later this year. Actually, all the animation is finished and we are now rendering the frames. As soon as possible, we will translate the film into English and Italian and it will be shown online at and "Fundación integra" (the film producers), are working on getting it on television's "The History Channel". |

What version of LightWave are you using?
For this project we are using the 9.6 version, and 9.6.1 for some scenes because FiberFX runs better.
How did you create the armies marching?
We created two model types for the characters, low and high resolution. The high resolution models are animated by IK, then we create the MDD files saving the vertex deformation. For instancing we simply duplicate the object changing the parameters of the animation for each object (like old school people). The low resolution models are duplicated in Modeler, creating one object with 100 people or more, which are animated by object displacement texture and directly moving the object in the scene (this is for objects that are very far). |

Have you always used LightWave?
I have been working in the 3D field since 1993. At the beginning I used 3D studio 3, 4, Max, Alias (over silicon graphics) and Maya.
I
started with LightWave 3D in 1999, working in another Studio. Now, all the 3D team always uses it in our projects, due to the high productivity and render quality. |
What is your favourite feature in LightWave?
The ability to do everything, although it seems difficult, with the same software. And all that with speed and amazing quality. Summarized in three words: creativity, productivity, and quality. As I said, the best thing about LightWave 3D is that absolutely everything can be done by looking the right way. |
